Customers at the Wheatsheaf, On Westfield Street, are being sold bottles fitted with the SafeFlo tops.
Designers say the guard prevent spiking and minimise hygiene risks associated with drinking straight from bottles
Wheatsheaf landlord, Kenny Holden, reports the guards have proven successful, while St Helens Licensing Sergeant Frank Rennison is also supportive of the scheme.
He said: " There have been two incidents of possible spiking in St Helens during the past 12 months.
"But obviously we've got to put systems in place to alleviate the problem because it goes on in other parts of the country. I think it is an excellent idea"
